With a 4-0 record going into the week, the Baldwinsville girls golf team knew that the competition would get a lot tougher, and that it had to step up to match it.
The win streak would reach five, thanks to last Monday’s 204-220 victory over Cicero-North Syracuse, but then end a day later with a narrow 205-207 defeat to host Liverpool.
As she has done all season, Katie Walsh posted the top individual round of 43 at Liverpool Country Club, while Megan Foriero managed a 49.
But Liverpool caught up with a 49 from Alessa Main and three different rounds of 52 from Nea Mikela, Hanna Cristian and Ahnika Cramer, which offset a pair of totals of 56 that came from B’ville teammates Emma Brushingham and Lindsey Slazik.
So began a challenging stretch for the Bees, who had to make up its postponed April 20 match with Fayetteville-Manlius on Wednesday and lost, 199-217, to the Hornets. Walsh, with a 43, was matched by F-M’s Maggie Bonomo for top individual round.
Another big moment came on Thursday afternoon, when the Bees hosted defending Section III champion Auburn, who also sported an undefeated mark.
The Maroons stayed unbeaten, topping B’ville 179-201 as its big star, Lindsay May, went under par at Timber Banks and shot a 34 to Walsh’s 41. Brushingham added a 50, but that trailed Auburn’s Maggie Lesch, who had a 42.
Before all this, though, the Bees went to Rogues Roost last Monday and made it five wins in a row, against C-NS. Walsh shot a 40, well clear of Jessica Doran, who led the Northstars with a 47. That alone counted for nearly half the eventual winning margin.
