The boys golf race in the OHSL Liberty division is, essentially, a three-team battle, with Skaneateles and Westhill set to fight for first place in Wednesday’s match at Camillus Country Club and Cazenovia staying right with them.
Before that, though, the Lakers had to take care of the preliminary business, starting a string of road matches last Monday with an easy 195-275 road victory over Altmar-Parish-Williamstown. At Streamside Golf Course, Briggs Carter and Jarrett McDonald both shot 38 for nine holes.
Going to Millstone on Wednesday afternoon, the Lakers took on Jordan-Elbridge and won again, pulling away from the Eagles 194-231 with the five lowest individual rounds.
Jake Fontana led the charge, posting a 37, his lowest total of the season. Bennett Morse, Eli Goodell and Carter Streigel each had rounds of 39, with Raymond Falso adding a 40 as no Eagles golfer could top the 44 of Nick Falcone.
In girls action, Skaneateles hosted Cazenovia last Monday afternoon, and like the boys team did a week earlier, Skaneateles prevailed in this Laker duel by a 211-220 margin.
Grace Magee produced a steady round of 45 at Skaneateles Country Club, beating out Cazenovia’s Samantha Quarantillo (46) for individual honors, while Jill Barker offered Magee the most help, finishing with a 52.
Skaneateles made it back-to-back wins on Tuesday, stopping Chittenango 209-260. Magee improved to a 43 and Barker shot her second consecutive 52. Addie Gramil finished with a 56 as Karah Blair (58), Jenna Fields (61) and Nieve Morse (63).
That win streak ended Wednesday with a 185-205 defeat to Westhill at SCC. Magee’s 45 was matched by the Warriors’ Shannon Bunce and topped by two of Bunce’s teammates, Dori Klein and Julia Meisner, who each shot 44. Barker improved by one shot, to a 51.
Then, on Thursday, Skaneateles lost again, 212-219, to Marcellus, Magee improving to a 41 to beat the Mustangs’ Mary Colella, who led her side with a 45. Barker again ended up with a 52, with Gramil shooting a 57 and Fields adding a 62.
