Right after facing each other and splitting those showdowns, Cicero-North Syracuse and Liverpool’s track and field teams had more business at hand.
C-NS and Liverpool both ventured Friday to the Chittenango Invitational, where the boys Northstars nearly won it, finishing with 86 points, one less than Fayetteville-Manlius (87 points) as the girls Warriors were third with 51 points behind F-M and Rush-Henrietta.
Mark Hentges won the pole vault for C-NS, clearing 13 feet to beat Lewis (12’6”) and teammate Mitchell Brown (11 feet). George Reader had a second-place long jump of 19’11”, cleared 5’6” in the high jump for third place and also took third (39’11 ¼”) in the triple jump.
Tyler Mosher finished second (45’4 ½”) and Ross Mathewson fourth (43’1”) in the shot put, with Logan Lickfield second in the discus, throwing it 116’4” as Mathewson got to sixth place.
Ed Mahana went 1:00.25 in the 400 hurdles, second to Oneida’s Rory McCarthy (58.49 seconds), and took third in the 110 high hurdles in 15.87 seconds, Jared George was third in the boys pentathlon, picking up 2,290 points. C-NS also was fifth in the 1,600 sprint medley and 4×400 relays.
Liverpool saw SSchulz get third place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:56.93, with Ben Petrella fifth in the Fleet Feet Mile in 4:25.89. C-NS’s Zach Wagner was fifth in the full-field mile as Sam Barber took sixth place in the 3,200 in 10:24 flat, right behind Liverpool’s Ty Brownlow in third place (10:02.96) and Ryan Comstock in fifth .
In the girls meet, Liverpool’s Megan Milazzo won the high jump, clearing 4’10” with fewer misses than Carthage’s Bryanna Gagnon.
Jilllian Stagnitta made it to second place in the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 8:10.62 behind F-M’s Annika Avery (7:34.52), while Chewning-Kulick went 5:41.52 in the full-field mile, also second behind a Hornets runners, Phoebe White (5:41.52).
Danelle Sims was second (1:02.54) and Yasmeen Griffin fourth (1:03.62) in the 400 sprint. The Warriors took sixth in the 1,600 sprint medley and saw Griffin, Sims, Morgan Chewning-Kulick and Natalie Tauro get to third (4:23.35) in the 4×400.
Also for Liverpool, Alexis Bittel (1,935 points) got fourth place in the pentathlon. Tymiah Harper was sixth in the 100 sprint for Liverpool, with Ameliah Johnson sixth in the 400 hurdles.
The Northstars’ Brittany House was second (2,127 points) to Jamesville-DeWitt’s Alexandria Payne (2,899 points) in the pentathlon, accounting for eight of her team’s 11 points, the others coming from Mia Pestle taking fifth and Annia Marullo sixth in the 3,000.
Other C-NS girls athletes would make their mark on Saturday during the Skaneateles-Marcellus Girls Invitational, including Madison Gross, who ran the 2,000 steeplechse in 8:28.77 to pull away from Skaneateles’ Finan Malcolm (8:37 flat) and the rest of the field.
Javielle Fanizzi would go 15’11” in the long jump and get second place behind Jordan-Elbridge’s Rebeka h Blonski, who won with 16’6”. In the triple jump, Fanizzi again finished second, her best attempt of 33’ ¾” trailing East Syracuse-Minoa’s Mia Montgomery (33’10”) at the end.
Nicole Herringshaw topped 4’10” in the high jump, second to South Jefferson’s Skylar Pastor, who won with 5’1”. Mia Pestle, Haley Pestle, Ashley Irvine and Annia Marullo were second (10:33.38) to West Genesee (10:17.43) in the 4×800 relay.
Though Sasha Pulaski was the fastest qualifier in the 100-meter dash with 13.33 seconds, and improved to 13.24 seconds in the final, she still was second to Marcellus’ Mary Catherine Coon, who won in 13.16 seconds. Destiny Monica was fourth (30’8”) and Kierrah Butler seventh in the shot put, with Kiana Garcia fifth (82 feet) and Herringshaw seventh in the discus.
Taylor Parry needed 2:26.14 to get third place in the 800. Cheyanna Colin qualified for the 100 hurdles final with 17.57 seconds and, though her time fell to 17.66 seconds in the final, she still took third place. Abbey Szumloz was eighth in the 400 hurdles and helped C-NS take seventh in the 4×400.
