Taxpayers in the Liverpool Central School District will see a 1.79 percent tax increase, according to the 2015-16 budget the district will send to a vote on May 19.
The LCSD Board of Education approved its final budget at its last meeting Monday, April 13. The $142,711,050 proposed budget represents a 2.94 percent increase over last year. The district is looking to raise $79,339,783, a 1.79 percent increase over last year.
Among the highlights of the budget is the addition of 19 staff members in the 2014-15 school year in special education positions, none of which were budgeted for in the current school year and had to be added to the next year. The proposed budget also adds new elementary school counselors and other support personnel.
Superintendent Mark Potter said the budget is extremely focused on the needs of the district’s students.
“It’s majorly student-centered,” he said. “The positions we’ve added are really directed at providing social and emotional support for our students for this past year and this coming year. We’re looking at long-term planning rather than year-to-year. It’s not about what people want, but about what our students need.”
The district will hold a public hearing on the budget at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 7. For more information on the budget, visit liverpool.k12.ny.us.
