In its first action of the 2015 season, Jamesville-DeWitt’s track and field teams pulled off a sweep during Thursday’s Westhill-Bishop Ludden Spring Invitational.
On the boys side, the Red Rams dominated the proceedings, earning 135 points to pull away from runner-up Jordan-Elbridge, who manage 96 points. West Genesee was third with 73 points.
Will Cote and Sean Mulvihill led the way. Going 1-2-3 in the long jump, J-D saw Mulvihill win with a top leap of 19’10 ¾”, while Cote was second with 19’1 ½” and Lichtenstein (18’7”) earned third place. Volk used a triple jump of 42’1” to win, as no other competitor even topped 39 feet.
Cote prevailed in the high jump, clearing 5 feet 10 inches to beat the field by two inches. He also was second in the 100-meter dash in exactly 12 seconds, part of yet another 1-2-3 sweep where Mulvihill took the top spot in 11.84 seconds and Dylan Volk was third in 12.06 seconds. Tyler Lichtenstein (12.27 seconds) was fifth.
Patrick Dye needed 2:10.21 to prevail in the 800-meter run, where Austin Philleo took third place in 2:12.58 and Quentin Curry (2:16.90) finished sixth.
J-D also won in the 4×400 relay, seeing Volk, Mulvihill, Tyler Gabriel and Colin Paladino post a time of 3:44.93 to hold off J-E’s second-place clocking of 3:45.83.
One more victory came in the shot put, where Joe Murphy threw it 46’6” and pulled away from a field where Henry Middleton took sixth place (34’10” and Evan Baxter (34’9 ¼”) was seventh. Murphy and Henry Middleton were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the discus.
Alex Le was second in the pole vault, clearing 9’6”, a number only Westhill-Ludden’s Chris Pullano (10 feet) could better. J-D was third in the shuttle hurdle relay in 1:08.60, with Jacob Harron third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Seth Blair sixth in the 200-meter dash.
In the girls meet, the Red Rams completed the sweep by picking up 100 points, enough to fend off both host Westhill-Ludden and West Genesee, who tied for second with 80 points.
This included a top-three sweep of the high jump, where Alexandra Payne won it, clearing 4’10”, with Lauren Saletsky second by topping 4’4” and Casey Keane third by clearing 4’2”.
Moving to the 100 sprint, Payne won here, too, going 13.41 seconds to fend off Skaneateles’ Amanda Wetmore (13.62 seconds). Payne, Ailish McDevitt, Claudia Hauser and Ciara Norris were third in the 3×100 shuttle hurdle relay.
Elena Haarer, in 2:28.33, finished second in the 800, while Keane grabbed fourth place in 2:33.88. Megan Brown took fourth in the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 8:27.13, while Alisa Salbert (9:23.46) got to sixth place, ahead of four J-D teammates.
Lauren Nandal was second in the discus, throwing it 67’7”, with Mariah Williams fourth, but Williams did better in the shot put, heaving it 27’6” for second place ahead of Nandal in third (27’ ½”) and Jessica Pace (26’4 ½”) in fourth place. Patrece Martin took second place in the long jump, going 14’1 ¾”, while Ailish McDivit was fourth in the triple jump.
