Tyler Popp is making the most of his high school career.
This week’s Liverpool High School Senior of the Week, Tyler is actively involved in a number of extracurricular activities and organizations.
He served as sophomore class president, and he’s a member of Chess Club, Math League, Key Club, National Honor Society, Barbershop Group, Ski Club and FIRST Robotics.
He plays numerous sports at school, including swimming, rowing/crew, volleyball and football, as well as club basketball, volleyball and karate.
Tyler is also musically inclined; he plays the guitar, the ukulele and the piano.
He’s involved with Young Life and Boy Scouts, and he volunteers at the Rescue Mission and the Samaritan Center.
He is employed as a lifeguard at LHS.
Tyler’s activities have earned him many accolades. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and earned a black belt in karate.
He received the RIT Innovational Creativity Award and the MAA AMCIO Math Award.
He will attend the University of Binghamton in the fall, after which he hopes to become an engineer or a doctor.
After 20 years or so, he plans to “settle down” as a teacher or professor.
Tyler enjoys traveling, playing guitar, reading, learning languages and listening to music. His favorite class is physics.
Tyler said his grandfather, Dr. Richard Swensen, has had the biggest influence on his life.
“[He] also achieved Eagle Scout and [he] inspired my love of learning,” he said.
