Now all the preliminaries are done, and it’s time for area indoor track and field teams to gear up for next week’s Section III championships, to take place Wednesday (Class AA and A) and Thursday (Class B and C/D) at SRC Arena.
Before that, though, the girls teams had one more regular-season meet, the George Constantino Invitational, and saw West Genesee earn 33 points to finish fifth and Westhill-Bishop Ludden get 31 points to take sixth place. Fayetteville-Manlius (102 points) again took the top spot.
Carly Benson struck again for WG, the freshman covering 1,000 meters in three minutes, 0.64 seconds, pulling away from the field as Westhill-Ludden’s Annibel Coolican finished third in 3:08.56, later adding a sixth-place finish in the high jump.
Megan Delia gave the Wildcats a third-place time of 1:41.66 in the 600-meter run, with Westhill-Ludden’s Genny Corcoran 10th, also pairing with Maria Matkoski, Valerie Pirro and Carly Benson to get third place in the 4×200 relay in 1:52.23.

Back on Jan. 23, the boys indoor track teams had an invitational meet at SRC Arena, just two days after the Fred Kirschenheiter Memorial, and without a lot of the large-school powers on hand, there was plenty of top finishes.
