Having gone through a string of close meets within the OHSL Liberty division, the Skaneateles wrestling team almost had to feel relief when it visited East Syracuse-Minoa for a non-league battle on Monday afternoon – something it handled quite well, taking 12 of 15 bouts to roll past the Spartans 64-18.
In an impressive 138-pound opener, Maverick Janes got a 7-0 shutout over Jeff Loder before Mike Goetzmann (145 pounds) earned the first pin, finishing off Anthony Marji in less than 90 seconds.
Andrew Newton’s 10-0 romp over Alex Regan at 152 pounds was followed by two of ESM’s three wins, but Pat Greenfield (182 pounds) got the Lakers going again when he beat Medo Pugonja 9-3 in the closest decision of the meet.
At 195 pounds, Joey McIntyre pinned Chris Todd in just 1:11, and though T.J. Greenfield (285 pounds) waited until the second period to pin Mason Hausler, he began a string of seven consecutive Laker victories to close out the contest.
In between forfeits to J.W. Simmons (99 pounds) and Max Collier (113 pounds), Christian Daley wrestled at 106 pounds and pinned Jacob Millet in 1:25.
Three straight pins rounded out the Lakers’ efforts, all in the opening period. Nevan Rourke, at 120 pounds, earned his fall over Dante O’Brien in 1:39, the exact same time that it took Joey Brillo (126 pounds) to pin Garren Kuney. In the 132-pound finale, Josh Brillo pinned Colin Hooker in 1:31.
This moved the Lakers’ overall record to 7-2 as it headed to Lowville on Saturday to compete in the Lewis County Duals.
