On the day after Christmas, the Baldwinsville girls basketball team hops on a plane and heads to Florida, and the shadow of the Magic Kingdom, set to test itself in a trio of games at the Disney Wide World Of Sports complex.
And the Bees do so with an unblemished mark – but more importantly, it is starting to see game action on a regular basis following a pair of prolonged December breaks.
At the end of this second rest period last Friday night, the Bees made a road trip, this one to Corcoran, and once again the layoff had no affect as B’ville was effective from the start and nearly doubled up the Cougars in a 63-33 romp.
To some degree, Corcoran still hadn’t recovered from blowing a 21-point fourth-quarter lead in a 54-52 loss at Central Square exactly one week earlier, and B’ville, who hadn’t played since Dec. 11 (a 51-35 win over Auburn), wasn’t going to be sympathetic.
Combining defensive pressure with a steady, relentless attack, the Bees raced to a 22-7 edge by the end of the first quarter. Things slowed up a bit for the rest of the half, but B’ville, up 34-18 at the break, promptly doubled up Corcoran in a 14-7 third quarter and got away.
Riley Carlucci had one of her best outings yet, piling up 16 rebounds to go with 11 points and three blocks, while Hope DeFazio had a team-high 18 points.
Emily Pascale landed 10 rebounds to complement her six points, three assists and three steals. Rachel Miller and Katie Walsh both worked inside for nine points, with Miller adding 10 rebounds as Kaylee Lammers had eight points and dished out a team-best seven assists.
Right before the Disney trip, B’ville met another city foe, Henninger, on Tuesday night, and made it five wins in a row with relative ease, tearing past the Black Knights 71-28.
Roaring out to a 38-12 halftime lead, the Bees clicked in all phases of the game, and DeFazio again set the pace, pouring in 25 points to nearly match Henninger by herself and adding seven rebounds.
Miller’s latest double-double involved 12 points and 10 rebounds, plus four blocks, and Pascale snagged seven steals to go with nine rebounds, six points and seven assists. Walsh had 10 rebounds and six points as Carlucci contributed nine points.
