Throughout the latter part of August, and all through September, the Skaneateles girls tennis team has remained in top form, with no one in the Onondaga High School League Liberty division able to keep up with them.
This was proven again by last week’s action, which started Monday with a Laker duel against Cazenovia that ended in yet another 7-0 shutout, without a single set dropped.
Katelyn Ellison had a tough second set in singles, but still beat Lucy Connor, 6-1, 7-5, with Olivia Gage romping past Allison Cooney 6-0, 6-1, and Louisa Morrow gaining a 6-0, 6-2 win over Cazenovia’s Brittany Wright.
Going to doubles, Liz Belinski and Angela Krause beat Anna Barrett and Lucy Langan, 6-1, 6-4, and that was the closest of the four matches.
Makenzie Herbst and Grace Magee met up with singles players Vivian Wilt and Ava Gurney and won by a 6-1, 6-1 margin, as Maura McNeil and Maddy Pinkney took out Julia Barrett and Summer 6-0, 6-1. Erica Byrne and Julia Torrisi completed the shutout with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Alicia Clarke and Lizzy Druke.
Going to Phoenix on Wednesday afternoon, it was another 7-0 shutout, with Ellison setting the tone as she blanked Gianna DeRoberts 6-0, 6-0 before Gage stopped Alexandra Galle 6-1, 6-2 and Morrow rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Lauren Schmidt.
Just as dominant in doubles play, the Lakers saw Belinski and Krause sail past Lucca Dahlin and Bryn Demong 6-1, 6-1. Magee and Herbst didn’t give up a game, handling Catherine Musumeci and Molly Thorn 6-0, 6-0.
To complete the latest Laker romp, Byrne and Torrisi turned back Elissa Fordyce and Veronica Griffin 6-1, 6-1, with McNeil and Pinkney handling Lariss Semanchuk-Enser and Molly Thorn in yet another 6-0, 6-0 match.
With an 8-0 record, Skaneateles took on Westhill Tuesday in its attempt to close out an undefeated regular season.
