Improving to 2-2 on the season, the Baldwinsville girls swim team made the trip to Mexico Wednesday night and, with Noelle Staso and Amanda Johnson each winning a pair of races, roared to a 103-71 victory over the Tigers.
Staso went 2:03.79 to beat out Mexico’s Julia Lamb (2:07.15) in the 200-yard freestyle, and followed that up with a first-place finish in the 100 freestyle in 57.37 seconds, again with Lamb (59.83 seconds) settling for the runner-up spot.
Johnson, in 28.25 seconds, beat the Tigers’ Jesse Faulkner (29.21 seconds) in the 50 freestyle, right before going to the 100 backstroke, where in 1:07.69 she won over Mexico’s Desiree Mullen (1:13.28).
To cap off her effort, Staso, joined by A Baker, Anna DiOrio and Lauren Guild, would help the Bees take the 200 freestyle relay in 1:57.96. Already, B’ville had seen Baker, Johnson, Lauren Burchill and Brooke Atkinson win the 200 medley relay, posting a time of 2:05.91.
Atkinson went to the 100 butterfly and, in 1:04.52, beat Mexico’s Jane Pritchard (1:07.13) for another race win. Guild rolled to first place in the 500 freestyle in 6:04.97, while Burchill needed 1:13.93 to beat Faulkner (1:17.92) in the 100 breaststroke.
B’ville is back in action next Tuesday, facing the combined Syracuse city team, before a showdown on Thursday against visiting West Genesee.
