When the Underwood siblings were growing up in the DeWitt area, one of their favorite things to do as a family was to visit the local TCBY frozen yogurt shop, located in the plaza across from Tops.
Now, the three siblings: Nicole, Mike and Derek are bringing frozen yogurt back to the eastern suburbs with their shop “Yogurt Gone Wild,” located in the plaza next to the old Friendly’s in Fayetteville.
“We wanted a place where people could get together in Fayetteville and meet in a social setting that doesn’t include drinking alcohol,” said Mike. “It’s a family-oriented place with healthy options.”
Yogurt Gone Wild uses fructose in its products, a kind of sugar found naturally in many fruits. Mike said that fructose is different from high fructose corn syrup or regular table sugar, which are used in some other frozen yogurts.
At Yogurt Gone Wild, customers are able to “self serve” their yogurt from a machine. There are more than ten different flavors available, including low fat, non-dairy and yogurt with no sugar added. Once they have a flavor selected, customers choose from a variety of toppings, including healthier options like fresh cut strawberries and raspberries or sweeter alternatives such as M&Ms and sprinkles.
“Because we’re a family-owned business, we take suggestions from the community on any other toppings or flavors that people may want,” Mike said.
The store opened its doors at the end of May, but the official grand opening is set for the afternoon on Friday, July 25. There will be a discount on the price of yogurt at 39 cents per pound and Yogurt Gone Wild’s mascot will be around to take pictures with children.
