The Baldwinsville Village Board met June 19 to discuss and act on various items. The following is a summary of what took place.
The board delivered a proclamation recognizing the career accomplishments of C.W. Baker High lacrosse coach Pete Fiorini. Mayor Richard Clarke proclaimed Fiorini’s retirement day, Friday, June 27, to be Coach Pete Fiorini Day.
The board heard a presentation by Chris Carrick from the Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board on the voluntary Climate Smart Community Program, which is a statewide partnership with local municipalities to encourage savings in energy, green economic development and reduction in pollution. Currently, there are more than 120 communities that have adopted this pledge, 17 of which are in CNY, including the city of Syracuse, the towns of Dewitt and Skaneateles and the villages of Minoa and Fayetteville.
Life in the Fingerlakes Magazine, which is available at Wegmans, will feature the village of Baldwinsville in its fall edition. Clarke said he had asked the editor, who is not local, why he chose Baldwinsville, and Stash replied that while he was in town for his daughter’s lacrosse game, he decided to roam the village and loved it. “We made a nice impression and for that we’re going to be in a magazine and hopefully make a nicer impression,” Clarke said. “You just never know what it is how we’re going to catch someone’s fancy.”
Trustee Mark Wilder remarked on a meeting held June 12 between the planning board and members of the village board on significant progress involving potential development on the river side of Lock Street. The goal is to have a true concept presented to the planning board at least two weeks prior to its July meeting.
The following two motions took place on June 13, but were announced by Clarke at the June 19 meeting: The board approved a motion to submit a consolidated funding application to the state for a grant to assist the village in construction of boat/kayak launches in Mercer and Community parks. The village financial commitment for this project will be approximately $37,500. The board also approved a motion to submit a consolidated funding application to the state for a grant to assist the village in construction of new Visitor Center with a bathhouse adjacent to the Southwest Trail Docking Facility. The village financial commitment for this project will be approximately $100,000.
Trustee Bruce Stebbins noted these are just applications. The funding period would be in the next fiscal year and would not at all impact this year’s budget.
The board will next meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 3 at Village Hall, 16 W. Genesee St. in Baldwinsville.
