The suspicious event that occurred April 29 outside Durgee Jr. High School in the Baldwinsville Central School District turned out to be nothing more than a high school student asking a fellow peer if he wanted a ride home.
The original report said a driver of a tan older model sedan had approached a student who was leaving the main campus of Durgee Jr. High between 3:30 and 3:45 p.m. The student and his family reported the incident to school officials the following morning.
Baldwinsville School Resource Officer Marty Knaul said it has been verified the driver of the car was a high school male who recognized the student on foot as one of his teammates and yelled from across the road if he wanted a ride home. Because it was a rainy day and visibility was poor, the pedestrian didn’t recognize him, refused the ride home and later described the teen as having appeared much older.
