One constant treat for members of the Baldwinsville girls lacrosse team is to head out on a long trip each spring far away from Central New York, a chance to face some unique competition and also to forge bonds and chemistry that could pay off down the road.
For this year’s trip, the Bees went to Texas, and while down there it would play a pair of games against local competition, starting with a game last Friday against St. John’s Episcopal, from Houston, which it won by a 16-0 margin.
Marjorie Dehm, with four goals and one assist, and Taylor Gebhardt, with two goals and four assists, set the pace as B’ville breezed out to a 10-0 halftime lead.
Alex Leo and Mackenzie Porch matched Gebhardt, each of them scoring twice, while Glory Johnson, Stephanie Roberts, Erin Nagle, Anna Mazurkiewicz, Andrea Walker and Meghan Ward got single goals. Ward and Walker added assists.
Before flying to Texas, the Bees, coming off a 14-11 defeat to Farmingdale in a rematch of the 2013 state Class A final on April 12, rebounded last Monday night to rout Rome Free Academy 20-6.
Racing out to a 12-2 halftime lead, B’ville didn’t stop until it had put together its most productive effort of the season on the offensive end, as 13 different players scored at least one goal.
Gebhardt, finally at full strength after an early-season ankle injury, amassed four goals and three assists. Leo stepped up, too, scoring twice and adding three assists.
Johnson and Hailey Couchman both got two goals and one assist, with Julia Goodwin also finding the net twice. Dehm managed a goal and two assists as Walker, Roberts, Mazurkiewicz, Nagle, Porch, Ward and Lexi Pastore took turns getting single goals. Alison Hernandez added an assist.
Another game in Texas would take place against the Hockaday School on Monday afternoon. Then B’ville would head home, and resumes local action Friday night, at Auburn.
