There will only be one name on the ballot for the village of Skaneateles’ special election to be held March 18.
After the deadline of Feb. 11 had passed, Carol Stokes-Cawley was the only village resident to file a petition to run for the vacant village trustee position, Clerk Patty Couch said.
The trustee position is vacant due to the resignation of Mary Sennett, who took over as town supervisor on Jan. 1.
Sennett was originally elected to a four-year term in March 2013, and state law dictates that with three out of four years remaining on a term, an election must be held. Though he had the authority to appoint a temporary trustee for the first three months of the year, Mayor Marty Hubbard opted not to do so out of fairness for a possible race.
Due to a law passed by the village in 2012 making regular elections only necessary on odd-numbered years, the trustee vote will be the only item on the ballot.
Last March, Sennett, Hubbard and Trustee Jim Lanning were all re-elected unopposed for four year terms that end March 31, 2017.
