As the schedule worked out, the CBA/Jamesville-DeWitt boys swim team would compete twice before the holiday break – and win both meets to improve to 4-0 on the season.
Relying again on the likes of Kevin Potocki and Corey Knapp, CBA/J-D delivered its third consecutive victory last Tuesday night as it rolled past the Baldwinsville Bees 96-82.
Potocki ripped his way past the field in the 200 freestyle in one minute, 52.81 seconds, winning that event and doing the same in the 100 freestyle as he blazed to a time of 51.75 seconds, with McMillen Judge (58.96 seconds) completing a 1-2 sweep.
Knapp, for his part, needed 22.86 seconds to blaze to first place in the 50 freestyle, and he held off B’ville’s Eric Johnson, 1:00.92 to 1:02.37, for a victory in the 100 butterfly. He also teamed with Josh Lacey, Casey Sawyer and Jack Martin to win the 200 medley relay in 1:40.98.
Lacey earned his own title in the 200 individual medley in 2:05.10, with Martin, in 1:04 flat, topping the Bees’ John Sidorakis (1:05.27) in the 100 backstroke.
Jack Toole claimed first in the 500 freestyle in 5:38.18 as Alex Dieroff, with 239.05 points, won again on the diving board, beating out Matt Wanamaker (208.95 points) for that top spot.
Without much time to rest, CBA/J-D welcomed Weedsport 48 hours later, and had little trouble running the win streak to four, piling up points early as it beat the Warriors 96-82.
The 200 medley relay proved to be a thriller as Potocki, Martin, Lacey and Ben Vahey, in a time of 2:01.41, nipped Weedsport (2:01.55) by a tiny margin of 0.14 seconds.
From there, Martin went on to take the 50 freestyle in 24.92 seconds, with Colin Howe second in 26.77 seconds. Lacey, in the 100 freestyle, sped to victory in 51.80 seconds as Ben Katsarsky grabbed the runner-up spot in 53.37 seconds.
Wanamaker’s total of 228.7 points finally gave him a first-place finish in diving over Dieroff, who had 209.65 points, with Sawyer going 57.11 seconds to win the 100 butterfly and Luca Bebla, in 2:26.40, edging Nick Street (2:26.52) in the 200 IM.
Dan McGann, in 5:38.24, pulled away from teammate Jeff Gabriel (5:46.02) to win the 500 freestyle, right before Street, Howe, Jack Radford and Sargon Bebla pushed through the 200 freestyle relay in 1:44.69 to give CBA/J-D one more win. Its season resumes with matches Jan. 7 against Pulaski and Jan. 9 against New Hartford.
