With the milestone of head coach Brian Ellithorpe’s 300th win behind them, the Cazenovia girls volleyball team vowed to keep adding to that win total – and did so, with a brief interruption in the middle.
The Lakers had little stress in last Tuesday’s match against Fowler at Buckley Gym, taking just three sets to put away the Falcons 25-9, 25-17, 25-8.
Everyone on the roster took a turn on the courts, Cazenovia recording 19 aces, eight of them from Paige Schultz to go with her three kills. Dominique Lyons had nine assists, while Lauren Lyons (five assists) and Jenna Britton (three assists) helped on the back line.
Maddy Ellithorpe managed seven digs, and Cazenovia’s front line was deep and well-balanced. Willa Mihayli-Koch led with four kills, while Madison Gabor and Rebekah Swart also had three kills. Ashley Marti added four digs as Amara Kattrein, Taylor Eldred, Danielle Tedesco and Maddy Carges joined Ellithorpe earning two kills.
A night later, the Lakers found itself visiting Class AA power West Genesee, and unable to dislodge the Wildcats in a 25-21, 25-19, 25-16 defeat.
Lyons still managed 11 assists, three kills, three digs and two aces. Gabor had 21 digs to go with her seven kills, while Mihyali-Koch had 10 digs and four kills and Britton added nine digs. Kara Sweeney led WG with 23 assists, six aces and five digs as Lynn Copeland and Brianna Richardson each finished with seven kills.
Cazenovia plays three times in the last week of the regular season, going to Mexico Monday and facing Homer Wednesday night at Buckley Gym before closing Friday at Marcellus.
