County legislator Brian May is running for re-election unopposed. May serves the first district which includes the town of Lysander and the western portion of the town of Clay.
Biographical information
My wife Gina and I have been married for 19 years, we could not be more proud of our four children, ages 11 to 16, who attend Baldwinsville schools. My attraction to this community began while working on a Lysander farm during my teenage years. I am a self-employed business development and employee benefits/insurance consultant. I am the Republican nominee for the 1st Legislative District, also endorsed by the Conservative, Independence and Veterans parties. During my first term, I have been serving on the Ways & Means and Public Safety committees. I also serve on the Syracuse Tech Garden and Friends of Beaver Lake boards of directors, the county’s Farmland Protection and Energy & Sustainability boards and Lysander’s Public Safety Coalition.
Why are you running for office?
In all levels of government, there is dire need for traditional values and priorities. In local government, I believe these values should transcend politics, and that service to taxpayers should always be at the forefront. While my conservative views may define who I am, I’ve done my best to let common-sense and the needs of the people I serve drive my efforts. I have an incredible passion for good, cost-effective government, which has proven to benefit taxpayers. I am humbly requesting the honor of continuing my service to our community and the county.
Why are you the best candidate for this office?
Results. During my time as a board member in Lysander, our spending per capita was among lowest of NY’s 908 towns. As a legislator, I’ve played a major role in reducing the county property tax levy to its lowest level in more than 20 years. These accomplishments portray a body of work that puts taxpayers first, even when some of my positions risked popularity or “political” acceptance. I’ve represented this district well by reducing county property taxes and helping the town and village with hundreds of thousands of dollars for aging infrastructure and community development projects. At the same time, I have not been afraid to invest in efforts that benefit our economy and create jobs.
