When the West Genesee girls swim team is most effective, it puts away any kind of opposition with sheer numbers of quality performers.
Or at least that was the Wildcats’ plan in Wednesday night’s meet against visiting Liverpool, and it worked to perfection as WG rolled past the Warriors 101-79 and improved to 6-0 on the season.
Sweeping all three relays, the Wildcats began the surge in the 200 medley, where Shannon Cahalan, Sinead Guy, Erin Dowler and Brianna Smith went under two minutes (1:57.73, to be exact), to beat Liverpool (2:00.99) and set the tone.
Olivia Castro joined in during the 200 freestyle relay, anchoring a quartet that included Guy, Smith and Kaitlin Dunning as WG roared to victory in 1:42.90. Then, in the closing 400 freestyle relay, Castro and Dunning, helped by Becca Kanoza and Vicoria Lee, finished in 3:54.11 for another impressive victory.
Individually, Castro roared to a time of 1:57.89 and dominated the 200 freestyle, and later got to 53.85 seconds in the 100 freestyle for another one-sided victory with one of the best times of the Section III season. Kanoza was second (57.91 seconds) in the 100 free.
Erin Dowler, who was second in the 200 individual medley (2:27.48) to Liverpool’s Sydnie Sovinsky (2:25.35), made up for it by winning the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.06, where Jordan Donegan (1:21.17) took second place.
It was the same for Cahalaan, whose victory in the 100 butterfly in 1:04.06 preceded a second-place showing (1:05.65), just behind the Warriors’ Olivia Corlett (1:05.25), in the 100 backstroke. Abby Mullett was second (1:09.71) in the 100 fly.
Guy, with a time of 26.40 seconds, fended off Smith and Dunning (27.11 seconds each) in the 50 freestyle, while Abby Uczen again won on the diving board, picking up 219.55 points as teammate Chloe Feuer (161.65 points) earned the second spot.
Two more meets remain in the regular season for the Wildcats as it goes to Auburn next Wednesday night before closing the campaign Oct. 29 against Baldwinsville.
