Parishioners at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church will gather Saturday afternoon to help out one of their own, the young and lovely Sarah Wansart who faces a lengthy recovery after being hospitalized with a serious MRSA infection.
The daughter of St. Joe’s parish council member Jane Wansart, Sarah has been hospitalized for more than a month after developing complications.
“Like her mother, Sarah is an energetic and compassionate person dedicated to serving others,” noted the parish music director, Eileen Brody. Besides serving on the parish council, Jane Wansart sings in the church choir under Brody’s leadership.
St. Joe’s will host a benefit from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at the Parish Center, 1001 Tulip St. at the corner of Sixth Street. The fundraiser will help the Wansart family defray medical costs.
“We’ve been supporting Sarah with our prayers,” Brody said, “and now we can support her and her family in this manner as she faces the enormous costs of a serious illness.” The benefit will feature food, entertainment, raffles a silent auction and activities for children.
Admission will cost $20 in advance, or $25 at the door, $10 for kids ages 4 through 12 while children age 3 and younger get in free. For information, call Peggy Bass at 558-1399 or Brody at 457-6060.
MRSA stands for Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, a bacterium responsible for several difficult-to-treat infections in humans. MRSA is frustratingly resistant to antibiotics. Sarah Wansart’s illness was further complicated by pulmonary embolisms, serious blockages of both lungs that routinely lead to chest pains, difficulty breathing, palpitations and a rapid heart rate.

A graduate of North Syracuse High School, Schiele attended San Diego State University to study fine art, graphic design, marketing and music production. The talented guitarist ended up learning how to market his own music career, and he earned two San Diego Music Awards after being nominated several times from 2003 to 2010.

At the 14th annual Greater Liverpool Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament dinner at 5 p.m. Friday, June 14, at Radisson Greens in Baldwinsville.
Chuck sings and plays guitar and he’ll be backed by drummer Phil Smith and bassist John Dancks. While Schiele has received San Diego Music Awards, Dancks was inducted into the Syracuse Area Music Awards Hall of Fame in March.
“John Dancks is Syracuse’s ‘go-to’ bass player,” Schiele noted. “He has been playing in a variety of groups for many years, and he really deserves to be in the Sammys Hall of Fame.” Schiele’s percussionist is no slouch, either. A Maine native, Phil Smith is a veteran of the Lou Rawls band and was also a member of the prestigious McDonald’s All-Star Band.
On Friday, the golfers and their guests will hear the trio play classic rock and Americana acoustic tunes, “but with an updated feel,” Schiele said. The threesome will cover material by Tom Petty, John Hiatt, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones as well as a handful of Schiele originals.
“We maintain an emphasis on being a part of our audience as opposed to the audience being a part of us,” Schiele said. “It’s always about the audience. That’s very important.”
Don’t forget, a 60-minute version of Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” will be presented free of charge at 7 p.m. this Sunday, June 16, at Johnson Park. The modern adaptation of the classic tragedy being staged by the Redhouse Arts Center is appropriate for families.
The Redhouse’s 2011 outdoor production of “Romeo and Juliet” was named “Best Theatre of 2011” by The Post-Standard, and last year the arts center staged “The Tempest” in area parks.
Sunday’s performance, hosted here by the Liverpool Is The Place Committee, will mark the Redhouse’s first time in Johnson Park. It’s co-sponsored by the White Water Pub, in the village at 110 S. Willow St., and by the Baldwinsville Theatre Guild.
