Sean Honsinger honored Cpl. Kyle Schneider with a musical rendition of “God Bless America” during the May 13 dedication ceremony for the Corporal Kyle Schneider Post Office Building.
Honsinger, a 2012 Baker High School graduate, was the first recipient of the Kyle Schneider Memorial Scholarship, which was established by QuintEssence, a local A Cappella group.
“QuintEssence decided to honor his memory by offering a scholarship, in Kyle’s name, to a Baker High School senior who will be pursuing a college degree in vocal music,” said Jim Burns, who cofounded the group with John “Sam” Armstrong.
Comprised of five life-long singers, QuintEssence members have been singing together for a couple of years. The group enjoys performing layered, complex and, of course, fun musical arrangements. They are set to perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, at the First Presbyterian Church, and will share the stage with the Baker High School concert choir, who gave a moving performance of “Remember My Name in Honor of Corporal Kyle R. Schneider,” written by Kerryanna Kershner and Armstrong, during the May 13 dedication.
The Baldwinsville community lost Cpl. Schneider, a United States Marine who was killed in action in Afghanistan, on June 30, 2011. Cpl. Schneider was a Baker High School graduate who gave to his country and to all of us his ultimate sacrifice in our defense.
While there is no set admission charge for the May 29 performance, donations will be accepted for the scholarship fund. The scholarship will be awarded to a Baldwinsville senior pursuing a degree in the field of vocal music at Baker High School’s annual Moving Up Day ceremony held on May 24.
The First Presbyterian Church is located at 64 Oswego St., Baldwinsville.
