Ann Horan, who is spearheading efforts to ban hydrofracking in the towns of Lysander and Van Buren, has organized a free public viewing of the movie “Gasland.”
The movie, which is an informative piece on the controversial practice of hydraulic fracturing for natural gas, will be viewed at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the First United Methodist Church, 17 W. Genesee St., B’ville. Included in the film are testimonies of people who reside in hydrofracking-permitted areas.
“Come to be informed on what is at stake for communities that allow high-volume horizontal hydraulic fracturing,” Horan said, adding the movie discusses the health, environmental and economic issues involved.
Horan is collecting signatures for an anti-fracking petition, which she plans to deliver to municipal boards in March.
A second viewing of several online videos, as well as a discussion in which all participants are welcome to contribute, will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, at the First United Methodist Church.
