Car break-ins and larcenies in the area surrounding Skaneateles have been on the rise in recent weeks, and the Skaneateles Village Police Department reminds all residents to both keep valuables out of their cars at night and also to lock their cars at all times.
“There’s a rash right now [of break-ins], they’re breaking windows to get in,” said Village Police Sgt. Marty Stevens. “Anyone who doesn’t lock their car should.”
Stevens said the perpetrators have been breaking into cars mainly at night and, so far, have been getting away undetected with items such as money, credit cards, cell phones, cameras and GPS devices.
While car larcenies have been occurring in surrounding places such as in the town of Skaneateles, Otisco and Lysander, so far not many occurrences have happened in the village, Stevens said.
Anyone with questions or concerns should call the village police department at 685-3819.
