Cazenovia native Travis Barr returned to Cazenovia the weekend of Oct. 27 to see family, observe the autumn foliage and visit the Catherine Cummings Theater — this time as a performer.
Theater Manager Colleen Prossner introduced Barr and musical theater actor Steven Incammicia, as Anita M. Buffem and Gina Marie Ritale, respectively, before their show, “The Showgirls Strike Back!”
An avid thespian as a local youth, Barr appeared in a production of “Godspell,” which was Prossner’s first experience directing a play. Before turning the stage over to him, she described her first memory of Barr and thanked him for continuing to follow his dreams and ambitions.
The character-driven comedy the two actors have created and tightly-perform consistently produces loud rolls of laughter from audience members and has been getting a lot of attention lately.
“I was so happy to bring the show to Cazenovia, and share with friends, family and the community what I have been working on since moving [away]. I have worked on a few projects in the last 10 years, but this really seems to be ‘the one.’ Everyone falls in love with Anita and Gina Marie,” Barr said. “It also feels great to know that our show translates from big city crowds to smaller communities like Cazenovia. We were so happy to have about 100 people in attendance at both shows and I think that also shows how open-minded people can be.”
The duo has regular gigs at acclaimed venues in New York City, and recently announced they are developing a holiday program, “The Haus of Mimosa presents: Anita and Gina Marie’s Holiday Spectacular on Ice!” The show will be performed in Cazenovia at 8 p.m. on Dec. 14 in the Catherine Cummings Theater. Tickets will be available for purchase form Lillie Bean and Cazenovia Jewelry as of Nov. 12.
“We feel blessed to know that The Haus of Mimosa is going to be our careers for a long time to come. The sky is the limit for Anita and Gina Marie,” Barr said.
Barr and Incammicia are also available for home-party performances, and offer to bring their signature Tupperware, Bingo and Passion parties to fans’ homes. While it took them some time to find his niche, Barr and Incammicia can safely say they are headed in the right direction.
