Charis Parker’s exciting victory in the 100-yard breaststroke highlighted the efforts of the Baldwinsville girls swim team during last Thursday’s Section III Class A championship meet at Nottingham High School.
As a team, the Bees picked up 267 points, sliding into third place. West Genesee, with a late rally, held off Christian Brothers Academy, 344 points to 338, for the top spot.
Parker, in the 100 breaststroke, squared off against CBA star Kathryn Coughlin, who had already won the 200 individual medley earlier in the meet, finishing in 2:16.27 while Parker, in 2:21.33, held off the Brothers’ Julia Torell (2:21.61) for the runner-up spot.
They were close all the way through the 100 breaststroke, but at the wall, Parker, in a time of 1:06.32, beat Coughlin (1:03.64) by 0.32 seconds to nab the victory.
Other than that, B’ville’s best finish took place in the 200 medley relay. Again, Parker was involved, teaming with Cassandra Cherebin, Allie Connor and Kaitlyn Martin for a time of 1:55.40, finishing second to CBA, who won in 1:50.27.
On her own, Connor managed a third-place time of 1:04.04 in the 100 butterfly, while Brooke Atkinson also swam well in the 200 IM, getting to fourth place in 2:24.89. Martin was sixth (5:41.49) in the 500 freestyle.
In the 400 freestyle relay, Elena Margrey, Lauren Guild, Samantha Sidorakis and Amanda Johnson got a fourth-place time of 4:00.97. This was after Parker, Connor, Martin and Elena Margrey finished sixth (1:47.81) in the 200 freestyle relay.
