A post-season trail that the Fayetteville-Manlius cross country team hopes will end in Oregon on the first day in December began with an easy conquest of Wednesday’s CNY Counties League American division championship meet.
The Hornets went to Central Square, where it swept all the top spots in the girls race and won with 15 points, leaving runner-up West Genesee (60 points) and the rest of the field far behind.
Alana Pearl worked her way to the front, winning in 18 minutes, 38 seconds. Jillian Fanning finished second, in 18:49, while Annika Avery had a solid third-place showing in 18:55.
Just behind them, Mary Barger, in 19:12, got to fourth place, with Katie Brislin fifth in 19:20. Michelle Duffy had a sixth-place time of 19:59 and Jessica Howe, in 20:02, finished seventh.
Most of the Hornets’ runners went to the JV portion, where it had a top-nine sweep, led by Jenna Farrell, whose time of 19:27 beat the field by more than a minute and would have finished sixth on the varsity side.
Though the boys CNYCL American meet was a bit closer, no one threatened F-M, whose 20 points again was more than enough, leaving West Genesee (56 points) and the field far behind.
Nick Ryan pulled away from the pack and finished in 15 minutes, 55 seconds, nearly half a minute clear of teammate Bryce Millar, who was second in 16:19. Colin Fitzgibbons was third in 16:32.
Connor Farrell finished fifth, in 16:44, with Riley Hughes claiming ninth place in 17:08 and Adam Hunt (17:10) just behind him in 10th place. Charlie Beeler finished 15th, in 17:46.
Running in the OHSL Liberty division meet at Jamesville Beach, CBA finished sixth in the girls division and seventh in the boys division.
Individually, David Carey finished eighth in the boys race in a time of 17:20.2, just ahead of Jack Lenkiewicz, who was 10th in 17:37.9. Sid Perkins was 39th in 18:46.2. Maire Kate McGlynn was 13th in the girls race in a clocking of 20:33.9, with Gabrielle Schug 26th in 21:46.6.
