Sticking to its lighter early-season schedule for one more week, the Fayetteville-Manlius cross country teams cruised to twin 15-50 decisions over Central Square on Wednesday afternoon.
Annika Avery and Alana Pearl broke away from the pack in the girls race, and staged a nice duel. Avery won it, crossing the line in 19 minutes, 29 seconds as Pearl gained second place in 19:43.
Jessica Howe worked her way to third place in 20:50, with Jenna Farrell fourth (21:03) and Colleen Englert (21:25) rounding out the top five. Megan Menz was sixth, in 21:36, with Mackenzie Pierie matching veteran Jillian Fanning at 21:57, ahead of Mia Blatt (21:59) and Isabella Panozzo (22:03).
Nick Ryan and Bryce Millar ran together in the boys event, Ryan prevailing in 17 minute flat and Millar taking second in 17:02 F-M, in all, swept the top nine positions, with Colin Fitzgibbons getting to third place in 17:14 and Riley Hughes fourth in 17:39.
Adam Hunt, in 18:01, led the next group in fifth place. Connor Farrell was sixth (18:13), while Charlie Beeler (18:37), Andrew Berge (18:40) and Pete Ryan (18:51) all had solid showings, too.
Jamesville-DeWitt also had a sweep on Wednesday afternoon, beating Cortland 17-46 on the boys side and 18-45 on the girls side.
Nick Harron, who won the boys race in 16:20, led a top-three Red Rams sweep, with Billy Hohreiter second in 16:26 and Jack Healy third in 16:50. Matt Murad was fifth in exactly 17 minutes, followed by Isaac Tupper (17:23) in sixth. Andrew Scibila (17:39) and Nick Street (17:40) ran with each other as Brady Wing claimed 10th place in 18:05.
For the J-D girls, it was Rachel Fairbanks prevailing in 18:44, with Emilee Carpenter sliding into second place in 19:29 and the Rams claiming nine of the top 10 runners.
Samantha Clemons took fourth place in 20:01, with Laura Wengert (20:57) and Kim Walsh (22:03) rounding out the scoring column. Katie Pinkes, in seventh place in 22:12, led the next group as Samantha Jaffe (22:27), Sophie Leavett (22:39) and Allison Hohreiter (23:08) followed.
East Syracuse-Minoa split its meet with Fulton, the state-ranked girls Spartans routing the Red Raiders 17-46 and the boys side falling by a score of 24-32.
Running together, the ESM girls swept the top three as Gabby Pallotta won in 21:16.4, Natalie Marra was second (21:17) and Juliette Miller was third in 21:18. Sydney Brownson, in fifth place (22:02), led the next group as Morgan Young (22:13) and Marry Miner (22:15) were sixth and seventh, respectively. Nicole Devona (23:12), Sam Dooling (23:31) and Bridget Benz (23:34) followed.
ESM lost in the boys race even though Jesse Perrone won the individual contest in a time of 17:12. Nick Schug finished fifth, in 18:27, with Kyle Wiley seventh in 18:43 and Jake Barker eighth in 19:17.
