The turn of fall weather – to something wetter and colder, mostly – is a signal that it’s time for the Section III girls tennis post-season to get underway.
Cazenovia, who has legitimate candidates to go far into the sectional tournaments on both the singles and doubles side, first had a bit of league business to handle.
In Monday’s trip to Chittenango, the Lakers, mostly through its dominant singles play, cast aside the Bears 5-2 to improve its season mark to 10-2.
Sienna Lints got involved in the closest of the three singles matches, but still rolled past Kourtney Wilson 6-3, 6-3. Elizabeth Palmer romped past Marie Perriello 6-1, 6-1, while Kelly Furlong took just as long to get a 6-0, 6-1 sweep over Brittany Geiler.
Chittenango would find some solace in doubles, where Jessica Hogan and Ashley Jackowski worked past Grace Gara and Taylor Mimms 6-3, 6-1. Also, in a long battle in fourth doubles, Mackenzie Millick and Noelle Milnamow fought past Ava Gurney and Natalie Roszel 6-7, 6-4, 6-4.
In another three-set battle, though, the Lakers’ tandem of Claire Chanatry and Rebecca Marsch claimed a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 decision over Erika Burghardt and Lauren Malloy. Edie Connor and Sally Langan didn’t take as long to beat Samantha Bliss and Mackenzie Hall 6-0, 7-6.
