In its only action during the week, each of the Fayetteville-Manlius cross country teams earned lopsided victories over visiting Auburn last Thursday afternoon.
F-M’s victory over Auburn on the boys side, 15-49, featured Nick Ryan in top form. Ryan’s time of 16 minutes, 21 seconds was more than a minute ahead of teammate Colin Fitzgibbons, who at 17:41 held off Bryce Millar (17:42) for the runner-up spot.
Each of the top six finishes belonged to the Hornets, which included Riley Hughes, who slid into fourth place in 18:02. Adam Hunt, in 18:05, won a tight battle over Connor Farrell (18:06) for the fifth spot. Pete Ryan was eighth (18:29), with Andrew Berger (18:33) and Charlie Beeler (18:43) close behind.
During the girls Hornets’ 16-47 decision, the Maroons’ Destiny Parks broke into F-M’s pecking order, finishing fifth in 21:03, but the Hornets handled the rest.
Jessica Howe, in a winning time of 20:26, led a top-four sweep. Alana Pearl finished second in 20:53 as she, along with Katie Brislin and Annika Avery (20:54 each), stayed together as a pack.
Hannah Smith led the next Hornets’ wave, claiming sixth place in 21:10. Mia Blatt (21:21) held off Mackenzie Pierie (21:27) for seventh place, while Isabella Panozzo finished in 21:30 and Colleen Englert was 10th in 21:37.
A day earlier, Christian Brothers Academy split its meet with Cazenovia, beating the Lakers 20-36 on the boys side, but dropping a close 26-31 decision on the girls side.
David Carey, with a winning time of 17 minutes, 58 seconds, led a surge where CBA had four of the top five spots, including Jack Brower, who was second in 18:02.
Jack Lenkiewicz made his way to fourth place in 18:08, well clear of Kyle Barker, who was fifth in 18:28. Will Adams rounded out the scoring, claiming eighth place in 19:18, while George Parkes offered further insurance by getting 10th place in 20:11.
The closer girls meet saw CBA’s Megan Ann Pierce pull away from the field, winning in 18:41, nearly a full minute ahead of Cazenovia’s Jeannette Cudney (19:34) in second place.
Maire Kate McGlynn worked her way to third place in 20:20, with Gabrielle Schug taking sixth place in 21:05. But Cazenovia had all of its scoring in place before Lillie Hunt crossed the line in ninth place (21:52), and the Brothers could not catch up.
Going to Saturday’s McQuaid Invitational in Rochester, CBA saw Pierce finish fourth in the girls Varsity A race in a time of 18:08, while McGlynn got to 29th place (19:04) and the Brothers, as a team, claimed 11th place in the 21-team field.
The CBA boys finished 16th in the 24-team Varsity A division, the best run coming from Carey, who was 31st in a time of 16:24, just ahead of Lenkiewicz (16:34) in 34th place.
