One more time, the Cazenovia and Chittenango girls tennis teams got together on Friday afternoon, and it proved to be a command performance for the Lakers, who shut out the Bears 7-0.
Elizabeth Palmer got it started for Cazenovia, topping Samantha Bliss 6-0, 6-0. Elsewhere in singles, Taylor Mimms handled Angela Burghardt 6-2, 6-2, with Kelly Furlong managing a 6-1, 6-1 sweep of Courtney Wilson.
Moving to doubles, Claire Chanatry and Ava Gurney needed a second-set tie-breaker, but still beat Abbey Cyr and Brianna Koegel 6-1, 7-6 (7-5). Edie Connor and Sally Langan matched Mimms with a 6-2, 6-2 conquest of Mackenzie Hall and Marie Perriello.
The Lakers’ tandem of Grace Gara and Sienna Lints got past Jessica Hogan and Ashley Jackowski 6-2, 6-3, just as Rebecca Marsch and Natalie Roszel worked to a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Mackenzie Millick and Noelle Milnamow 6-1, 6-4.
In the heated race atop the OHSL Liberty division, the Lakers took a large step toward reaching the top in last Monday’s 5-2 victory over Marcellus.
It helped that the Lakers swept all three singles matches against the Mustangs. Lints had the closest call, needing three sets to get past Holly Grosholz 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, but Furlong rolled past Audrey Cerrone 6-1, 6-2 as Palmer gained a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Haley Randall. Moving to doubles, Gurney and Roszel earned a crucial point, defeating Tierney Clark and Ricky Maxon 6-4, 7-5.
Chittenango’s narrow 4-3 decision over Cortland on Thursday involved single-set matches to 10 games, and the Bears went 3-1 in doubles to pull it out.
Bliss and Hall beat Iva Markicevic 10-6, while Hogan and Jackowski pulled out a 10-8 decision over Anna Millar and Jennifer Wang. Burghardt and Malloy got past Marissa DeFranco and Caitlin Little 10-6 as, in singles, Perriello gained a 10-5 victory over Devon Tennant.
