So much for the offensive doldrums that may have crept into the Skaneateles girls soccer team’s psyche early in the 2012 season.

The Lakers really started to pick up its pace in last Monday’s game against Hannibal, where a big first half translated into an easy 6-0 win over the Warriors.

Relentless in the first 40 minutes, Skaneateles scored five times, spreading things around as it quickly put Hannibal away.

Tate Green led the push, scoring twice, while Lauren Goodchild, Catie Woodruff, Nicole Beatson and Hannah Powers earned one goal apiece. Hannibal did have a handful of shots, but Mary Buck scooped them all up, finishing with six saves.

A non-league game against McGraw followed on Thursday night, and though the Eagles are traditionally a strong Class D side, the Lakers jumped all over them in the first half on the way to a 5-1 victory.

Attacking at will just like it did early against Hannibal, Skaneateles had a 4-0 lead by halftime, more than enough. Woodruff had two of those goals, with Elizabeth Lane, Molly Wood and Ali Pietropoli earning one goal apiece.

This led to the week’s toughest test, a Saturday visit from Cazenovia, who boasted the torrid Kristie Klein, a player that had scored 13 goals in a three-game span earlier this month.

Somehow, Skaneateles managed to keep Klein for most of the game, a feat that was notable as anything else as the two Laker sides ended up in a 1-1 draw.

For a long while, Skaneateles had the edge, going up 1-0 in the first half thanks to Woodruff’s goal. Buck, who finished with seven saves, tried hard to get the shutout, but Klein beat her for the tying goal in the second half.

Neither side converted in the 20 minutes of overtime. Skaneateles had a more balanced approach, but often met frustration thanks to Cazenovia goalie Jamie Enders, who picked up 10 saves.

At 3-1-1 on the season, Skaneateles visits Westhill Tuesday afternoon, and is back home on Saturday to face Bishop Ludden, who moved up from the OHSL Patriot division this fall.
