The third Saturday in September is quickly approaching — and with it, the sixth annual Fayetteville Festival. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Beard Park, with a rain date of Sunday.
“The festival is an opportunity to spotlight the many great non-profit groups and services that support our local area,” said deputy village clerk Karen Shepardson, who organizes the event. “It gives these organizations a chance to educate the community about what they have to offer and hopefully also gain support through recruiting volunteers and/or donations.”
The family-friendly event will feature the Fayetteville Fire Department Chicken Barbecue, singers from Wellwood Middle School and the Fayetteville United Methodist Church, a children’s scavenger hunter, bounce houses, face painting, a Scout’s monkey bridge, a library book sale, demonstrations from police and fire officials and much more. At 1 p.m., guests can bring their animals to the park and have them blessed by United Church of Fayetteville Pastor Linda Even.
Also on Saturday is the 10th annual Fayetteville Classic 10K race to benefit the Syracuse Chargers Track Club’s college scholarship fund. Registration starts at 8 a.m. at Beard Park. The 10K starts at 9 a.m., followed by the children’s 100m, 200m and 400m races at 10 a.m. and an awards ceremony at 10:30 a.m.
The third annual Taste of Fayetteville will also be held from 4 to 7 p.m., when local restaurants will set up shop in the park. The day will come to a fitting close with fireworks at dusk.
“There truly is something for everyone, and it is always a good time,” Shepardson said.
