The first awards from the numerous competitions at the 2012 New York State Fair have been posted on the fair’s website, and Skaneatelans have once again brought home medals for their original creations.
In the commercial wine competition, Anyela’s Vineyards, Skaneateles’ sole winery, won five medals for its wines: silver for its 2008 Cabernet Franc and for its 2008 Noiret, and bronze for its 2010 Reisling, its 2008 Pinot Noir and it non-vintage Overlay Verse 4.
Also in the commercial wine category, Beak & Skiff Apple Farm’s Apple Vodka was named Best Specialty libation of the entire competition, after it won a gold medal. Beak & Skiff also received a silver medal for its Early American Traditions wine and a bronze for its French Traditions Cider.
In the amateur wine competition, Bill and Janet Aaron continued their annual streak of state fair awards by winning bronze medals for their 2010 Red Hybrid and 2010 Vinifera White wines.
The Skaneateles Press will print updates as more awards are announced by the fair.
