The annual Jazz in the City Neighborhood Outreach Concert Series will return to the city of Syracuse next month.
The series, which is presented by POMCO Group and organized by CNY Jazz Central and Premier Promotions, will be three Thursday night concerts on Aug. 2, 9 and 16.
R&B band the BlackLites will play at Dunk & Bright, 2648 S. Salina St., at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2. The Black Lites started in 1972, merging musicians from Syracuse’s east and south sides. Featured soloists from the Stan Colella Parks and Recreation All-Star Big band will sit in with the BlackLites. African Drum and Dance Troupe of Imagine Syracuse will also perform.
Saxophonist Curtis Haywood will bring his blend of jazz fusion, R&B and contemporary jazz to the POMCO Group parking lot, 130 Grant, at 7 p.m. Aug. 9. Haywood is a Brooklyn native who won in the Contemporary Jazz category at Philadelphia Music Conference.
The Near West Side multicultural block party is Aug. 16 at noon at 300 Oswego St. The Jazz in the City concert, featuring Alex Torres y su Orchesta, is at 7 p.m. The11-piece orchestra will be playing Afro-Caribbean rhythms.
