New York State Sen. John DeFrancisco and Cultural Resources Council executive director Steve Butler will award four scholarships to area students on Tuesday, June 26.
The award ceremony, which will take place in Signature Music’s studios at 509 W. Fayette St., will honor students who competed in the JazzIgnition scholarship event on Sunday, June 3.
The first place scholarship prize is being awarded to vocalist Ashley Gusman of Bishop Ludden. Tenor saxophonist Dunham Hall from Solvay High School will earn the second place prize, Nubia Hill of Nottingham High School will take home third place and vocalist Justin Tanksley from Jamesville-Dewitt High School will receive the fourth place prize.
“When the CRC approached us, we reached out to respected jazz educators,” said Dick Ford, executive director of Signature Music. “Twelve students were recommended and six participated as finalists. The judges offered encouraging feedback to the students and parents. Signature Music will conduct JazzIgnition twice during the next school year.”
Signature Music is a non-profit organization dedicated to offering music opportunities through Signature Music Camp and Signature Syracuse. JazzIgnition was established to engage high school jazz vocalists and instrumentalists from Central New York.
