For an entire weekend, the Liverpool boys lacrosse team recuperated in the wake of its 14-4 defeat at West Genesee on May 10, its lone defeat of the season.
Now at no. 10 in the state Class A rankings, the Warriors returned to the field last Monday, at Utica Proctor, and lay waste to the Raiders in a 27-2 laugher.
Liverpool scored 15 goals in the first quarter alone, was up 20-1 by halftime and spent the rest of the game making sure everybody got some playing time.
Logan Thomas led with four goals and two assists. Jamie Kuppel, Austin Hope and Colby Velazquez each had three goals and one assist, while Brian Jennings also had a three-goal hat trick.
Matt Glowacki and Scott Kershner got two goals apiece. Nick Kline had a goal and two assists, with Kyle DeAngelis, Mike Czachowski, Dan McManus and Brian Sardella also scoring. Peter Flood finished with three assists.
A day later, the girls Warriors had a similar experience in its regular-season finale, though the margin was smaller as Liverpool handled Rome Free Academy 19-3.
In a dominant first half, Liverpool built a 14-0 lead on the Black Knights, which gave the starters a chance to rest in the late going.
Before exiting, though, Andrea Flood put up three goals, with Mary Fadden getting two goals and two assists. Kylie Long, Morgan Kline and Courtney Wrobel each scored twice as Brianna Centro, Mallorie O’Brien, Courtney Szczesniak, Kayla Szczesniak, Alexis Kline, Kasi Cabrey, Jessica Attaway and Lauren Mancini put up one goal apiece.
With the no. 3 seed in the Section III Class A playoffs, Liverpool has to get past an opening-round game Tuesday night against the combined Syracuse city squad to reach next Thursday’s semifinal against no. 2 seed Baldwinsville at CBA’s Alibrandi Stadium.
On that same Thursday, the boys Warriors, with the no. 2 seed in its Class A sectional tournament, draws no. 7 seed Auburn, looking for a win so it can play Fayetteville-Manlius or Rome Free Academy Saturday in the semifinals at Bragman Stadium, where the title game also takes place May 30.
