Fairmount Center, which hinges on the Geddes and Camillus town line, could become the location of a new gas station on Genesee Street.
Delta Sonic has plans to build their third area station in the area. Developers seek to build a car-service complex that would highlight 16 gas pumps, a detail shop, a convenience store, a car wash, an oil change facility and a Tim Horton’s drive-thru.
A community meeting was held to explain the gas station chain’s plans for Fairmount Center on Tuesday at Geddes Town Hall. The meeting offered the developer’s plans for the space, while answering questions from residents who live nearby.
About 20 residents attended the meeting, which brought out questions about traffic and sound.
The developers have done sound studies, they said, and would look to minimize obtrusive sounds by limiting the blowers of the car wash to the front of the property, nearest Genesee Street.
The second concern was traffic. The plan, right now, calls for right-turns only, both in and out of the property. This would stop people from crossing Genesee Street near the 695 bypass. With a guarantee on prices within two miles, residents said they felt the gas station could bring in plenty of traffic.
“We don’t generally draw in new traffic,” one of the developers presenting said. He clarified that the biggest draw, they felt, would be the car wash. More than 1,000 cars are washed at one facility on a “peak, busy” day, he said.
The meeting was held by the developers, citing busy schedules that don’t allow neighbors time to attend public hearings. Geddes Town Supervisor Manny Falcone says the site plan has to return to the zoning board before any movement can be made, and then additional tweaks through the planning board.
