Even deep into May, the area’s girls golf teams were working their way through bad weather, and making the best of things.
For example, Christian Brothers Academy, still setting the pace in the Onondaga High School League, won a big showdown Thursday against its main chaser, Jamesville-DeWitt, at Butternut Creek.
With a score of 150, the Brothers topped the Red Rams, who had 156, and East Syracuse-Minoa, who had 176, even though J-D’s Molly Hair had the low individual round of 33.
Ellie Baumgartner shot a 34 for CBA, backed up by Emilie Oakes posting a 35, each of them ahead of J-D’s Victoria Roney, who had a 37. On the ESM side, Erin Marcy and Christina Harkum each shot equal totals of 43.
On that same day, Fayetteville-Manlius shot a team-record score at Westvale during a 167-198 victory over West Genesee.
That 167 was two shots better than the Hornets’ previous top effort at Westvale. Meghan Kingsley and Alexandra Millimaci both shot 40 in cold, windy conditions, with Kayla Pallotta (43), Carly Kidd (44) and Briana Winslow (45) close behind. Annie Caputo added a 49.
A day earlier, F-M was at Green Lakes, putting together one of its best efforts of the season to beat Cicero-North Syracuse 184-217.
Kidd stood out, as her nine-hole total of 40 tied the team mark Alex Seabury set a season ago at Green Lakes. Winslow, Meghan Kingsley and Millimaci each shot 48 in front of Pallotta, who had a 50.
CBA shot 181 in the rain at Drumlins last Monday to claim a first-place battle over Westhill (199) and also beat Cazenovia, who shot 210. In fact, it was the Lakers’ Maggie Carpenter who shot the low individual round of 40 for nine holes. Baumgartner led a consistent side with a 44.
After a lot more rain fell, Jamesville-DeWitt won on Tuesday over Chittenango 155-178 at Butternut Creek. Hair could not match her 29 from the May 3 match against Cazenovia and Skaneateles, but her 32 was still quite solid.
CBA and J-D both won on Wednesday, too. The Brothers, meeting Cazenovia again, handled them 183-230 behind a 39 from Jung Hye Kim and a 40 from Oakes. J-D’s 192-217 win over Skaneateles included a 37 from Hair.
ESM also earned a win, 205-215, over Marcellus, as Harkum and Erin Marcy both shot 49 on the Spartans’ behalf.
