In its last CNY Counties League National division meet of the regular season, the Baldwinsville boys track and field team met Henninger last Wednesday and had little trouble with the assignment, putting together a 71-31 victory over the Black Knights.
Shay Sargeant won three times. He started with a 100-meter dash of 11.2 seconds and a 200-meter dash of 22.5 seconds and, in the long jump, prevailed by going 20 feet ½ inch.
B’ville also swept the distance races, where Nate Wicks took the 800-meter run (2:14.9), Antonio Martinez beat the field in the mile (4:55.0) and Jack Martin needed 11:12.6 for the victory in the 3,200-meter run.
Dan Walker was first in the 400-meter dash (51.8 seconds) just before Andy Fleming went 1:00.6 in the 400 hurdles. Walker, Fleming, Wicks and Matt Pond won the 4×400 in 3:41.9 as Martin, Wicks, Harison Warner and Jared Kenney claimed the 4×800 relay in 9:20.1.
Moving to field events, Pat McNamara threw the discus 115’9” and Cody Young had a top shot put toss of 38’5”. Shawn Calnan, in the high jump, cleared 5’8”, with Logan Maar excelling in the pole vault as he toped 10’6” for another victory.
Meanwhile, the B’ville girls team, coming off its big May 3 win over Liverpool, took the next step and beat Henninger 86-55.
As Gina Carnovale turned toward the 800 and won that event in 2:29.0, Angelica Tomasello took over in the sprints, claiming the 100 in 13.2 seconds and the 200 in 26.9 seconds. Gabby Jordan added a 400 sprint title (1:02 flat) as Cierra Allen took the 400 hurdles in 1:10.9.
B’ville also swept the distance events, where Rachael Miller (5:20) edged Mia Bolton at 1,500 meters and Hannah Olds took the 3,000-meter run.
Carnovale worked her way to first in the long jump, going 14’9” as Emily Soeder cleared 5’2” in the high jump. Carlie McNamara continued her win streak in the discus, throwing it 86’11”, while Logan Hornsey had a first-place triple jump of 29’6”.
Stephanie Vasteno and Julia Nagy both cleared 7 feet in the pole vault. Vasteno, Quaneisha Ivey, Sarah Layton and Elise Seifitz were first in the 4×100 (53.9 seconds) as Ivey, Mackenzie Ross, Marissa Lathrop and Danielle Piontkowski ran the 4×400 in a top time of 4:41.0.
