Christian Brothers Academy’s track and field teams would serve as hosts on Friday for the 14th annual Brother Basilian O’Connell Memorial Invitational.
And each of the home teams would earn victories. On the boys side, Dan Predmore won the discus with a heave of 163 feet 2 inches, while Dametrius Brown edged Skaneateles’ Malik Merritt in the 100-meter dash, though both finished in 11.1 seconds. CBA also claimed the 4×400 relay in 3:39 flat.
Will Brower was second in the 110 high hurdles in 16.3 seconds, while Kevin Frasier took second (52.9 seconds) in the 400-meter dash. Jared Sayles got to second in the 800-meter run in 2:03.9 as Aaron Morgan cleared 5’8” for third place in the high jump and David Carey was fourth in the mile.
East Syracuse-Minoa also found some success at this meet, as Jeff McDuffie claimed the long jump with a leap of 20’4 ½” and helped the Spartans’ 4×100 relay team prevail in 46.0 seconds, edging Fowler (46.1 seconds) at the wire. Jesse Perrone was fourth at 3,200 meters (10:20.9) and Matt Hoalcraft was fifth (54.0 seconds) in the 400.
Meanwhile, ESM’s girls went to the Rome Girls Invitational Saturday at Rome Free Academy Stadium, where Nina Zesky won the high jump, clearing 5’2”, two inches ahead of Baldwinsville’s Emily Soeder and Bethlehem’s Grace Smith.
Amanda Wall earned second place in the long jump, going 16’6”, and was third in the triple jump with a best attempt of 35’1 ¾”. Kim Donato picked up 1,524 points in the pentathlon for sixth place.
The Spartans were fifth in the 4×800 relay (10:46.16) as Gabby Pallotta got sixth place in the 3,000-meter run in 11:17.09 and Megan Terry was sixth in the pole vault. CBA’s Maire Kate McGlynn was seventh in the 2,000-meter steeplechase.
CBA’s girls team won three different events. Ashley Crouch pulled away in the 100 hurdles, her time of 16.3 seconds nearly a full second ahead of the field, while Anna Schug held off Skaneateles’ Erin Tonzi, 1:01.3 to 1:01.5, in the 400 sprint and Megan Pierce took the 3,000-meter run in 11:12.6.
Just before this, the CBA boys teams swept last Wednesday’s three-way league meet against Jordan-Elbridge and Solvay, beating the Eagles 100-41 and edging the Bearcats 74-67.
Brendan Smith swept all three distance running events, covering the 800 in 2:06.3, running the mile in 4:48.0 and adding a 3,200-meter title in 10:31.0. Dan Predmore threw the shot put 45 feet 3 ½ inches and had a discus throw of 135 feet.
Manny Collins helped, out, too, taking the 100-meter dash in 11.3 seconds as Kevin Frasier needed 53.3 seconds to prevail in the 400-meter dash. CBA also won the 4×100 relay in 45.2 seconds.
The CBA girls also got a sweep, edging both J-E (71-65) and Solvay (74-63) as Marisa Hamel led the way, throwing the shot put 28’11” and recording a top high jump of 4’6”.
Monica Perrone took the 100 (13.7 seconds) and 200 (29.3 seconds) sprints, going on to run a leg as CBA won the 4×100 relay in 54.3 seconds.
On the oval, Maire Kate McGlynn won the 3,000-meter run in 12:25.30 and teamed with Anna Schug, Gabrielle Schug and Emily Garlatti to prevail in the 4×800 (11:13.8). Schug won the 400 sprint in 1:07.7.
ESM swept its three-way girls meet last Wednesday, beating Fulton 89-52 and topping Phoenix by an 86-55 margin. Wall claimed first place in both the triple jump and 200-meter dash, the latter in a time of 28.5 seconds.
Pallotta won the 1,500 (5:23.6) and 3,000 (11:37.8), while Arianna Harmon ran the 400 sprint in 1:05 flat and Jessica Drumm prevailed in the discus. Wall, Mackenzie Rath, Meghan Keach and Julia Lucisano earned first place in the 4×100 in 54.2 seconds.
In the boys meet, ESM lost close decisions to Fulton (74-67) and Phoenix (79-62), this despite McDuffie’s three wins. McDuffie ran the 100 in 11.8 seconds, claimed the 200 in 24.9 seconds and went 18’3” in the long jump. Perrone ran the mile in 4:56.3 and added a 3,200-meter title in 10:41.7. Marc Castro, Tom Grayer, Jayme Patrick and Justin Gorman won the 4×100 in 48.0 seconds.
