After they co-hosted a meet on April 28, the Skaneateles and Marcellus girls track and field teams took to facing each other three days later, this time on the oval at Hyatt Satdium, in an OHSL Liberty division that also featured Homer.
The Lakers won both sides of the meet, beating the Mustangs 85-56 and the Trojans 85-45. Taylor Woodruff swept all three sprints for the Lakers. She ran the 100-meter dash in 12.7 seconds, covered the 200-meter dash in 26.4 seconds and also beat the field in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:00.6.
Kaela Fiutak matched her season-best clearance of 10 feet 6 inches in the pole vault as she also teamed with Molly McCarthy, Ashley Bonocore and Nikki Cole to win the 4×100 relay in 54.6 seconds.
Madeline Adams, in the 800-meter run, got first place in 2:25 flat, while Jenn DeRosa won the 3,000-meter run in 11:57.9. Erin Tonzi took the triple jump with a best leap of 32’2”, while Rachel Baker threw the shot put 28’3” for another first-place finish.
From there, the girls Lakers went to CBA’s Alibrandi Stadium for the annual Brother Basilian Invitational, where it earned all kinds of accolades on both the girls and boys sides.
In the girls 1,500-meter run, Adams ruled as her time of 4:52.1 topped Fabius-Pompey’s Erin McConnell by 5.4 seconds, with Liz Dwyer sixth. She also helped Tonzi, Woodruff and Anna Barnett win the 4×400 relay in 4:11.9.
Tonzi beat the field in the triple jump, going 32’ ¼”, and she needed 1:01.5 for second place in the 400-meter dash.
Woodruff, in 26.5 seconds, was right behind Fowler’s Nytasia Survia (26.4 seconds) for second place in the 200, and had a second-place long jump of 14’ 11 ¼” while also getting third (12.7 seconds) in the 100 sprint.
Weyneth did not compete in the pole vault, but Meg Molnar cleared 7’6” for second place in that event anyway, with Grace Delasia sixth. Mary Buck topped 4’8” for third place in the high jump as Courtney Pitman was sixth in the 800-meter run.
Khairy Gale again won in the boys triple jump, his leap of 43 feet ½ inch nearly two feet ahead of the field. Taylor Weyneth delivered a 110 hurdles title in 16 seconds flat, and also was second in the 400 hurdles in 59.9 seconds.
Malik Merritt won the 200-meter dash, cruising to the line in 23.3 seconds, and got edged out in the 100 by CBA’s Dametrius Brown even though both finished in 11.1 seconds.
