Liverpool’s track and field teams made spirited pushes for the top spots during Saturday’s Chittenango Invitational.
And though the Warriors didn’t quite snare team honors, it still finished second among 21 boys entrants with 67 points and third in the girls event with 72 points. Fayetteville-Manlius won the girls event with 145 points and the boys event with 110 points.
Keewan Rondinello provided a spectacular performance in the boys 400-meter hurdles, his time of 56.82 seconds the best in Section III this spring. Ryheim Lawes would prevail in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 22.92 seconds, nearly a full second ahead of Indian River’s Ryan Williams.
Lawes nearly won the 100-meter dash, too, his time of 11.22 seconds just behind Oswego’s Cory Keefe (11.18 seconds) as Rondinello took third in 11.46 seconds. Alex Christensen, in a time of 2:02.19, got second, just behind F-M’s Langston Lightcap (2:01.84), in the 800-meter run.
In the 4×400 relay, Liverpool’s quartet of Tom Williams, Jacob Rowell, Zach Harris and Shawn Mosley claimed second place in 3:41.85 as F-M (3:34.82). Dylan McCarthy, Anthony Ostuni, Connor Buck and Travis Chewning-Kulick were third in the 4×800 relay in 9:03.22.
Harris and Paul Zumpano tied for fourth in the high jump, clearing 5 feet 6 inches. Nick Leedom and Anthony Miller were sixth and seventh, respectively, in the shot put, while Steve Fiorello went 17’10” in the long jump for sixth place. Gaurab Bhattacharya had a fifth-place time of 17.13 seconds in the 110 high hurdles.
Ore Akinpelu provided lots of highlights for the Liverpool girls team, needing 1:10.28 to beat the field in the 400 hurdles as Jordan-Elbridge’s Rachel Scott was second, nearly two full seconds behind. Akinpelu also was second (12.99 seconds) to Cazenovia’s Ashley Winn (12.73) in the 100 sprint.
Nicole Barrett earned a victory in the pole vault, the only competitor to clear 8 feet 6 inches as no one else got higher than 7’6”, including Shae Shenandoah, who tied for third.
Catherine Rowell had a second-place long jump of 15’3” and also was second in the triple jump, going 32’ 4 ½”, as she also took fourth in the 400 sprint (1:02.31).
Alexandra Whiting worked her way to fourth place in the 800-meter run in 2:34.37. Mary Reed was fifth in the discus (81’11”) as Connie Torres was sixth in the 200 sprint in 27.72 seconds. Liverpool’s best relay finish came in the 4×800, where Emily Butler, Kristina Monakhova, Jasjot Grewal and Lindsey Thiel finished fifth in 10:45.14.
