With much larger challenges ahead, the Christian Brothers Academy boys lacrosse team tore through three different opponents in a six-day span.
The run began last Monday with a 19-1 win over Bishop Ludden. It was 9-0 by the end of the first quarter and 12-0 by halftime, giving the Brothers a chance to utilize most of its roster.
Still, Joe Dalfo and Nick Papayanakos each scored three times, with Dalfo adding two assists. Joe Kelley, Jake Wilcox and J.R. Zazzara each scored twice in extended play off the bench.
Mike Vavonese managed a goal and two assists, with Cody Radziewicz and Braedon Gait both managing one goal and one assist. Anyon Davis, Evan Adamo and Jack Zerillo scored, too, with Andrew Romagnoli adding a pair of assists.
It was much the same against Manlius-Pebble Hill two days as the Brothers romped to a 23-3 win. Romagnoli and John Driscoll both scored four times, leading an attack where Radziewicz, Murphy Dalfo and J.R. Zazzara each had two goals. Papayanakos had a goal and three assists as Zerillo, Anyon Davis, Homer Davis, Joe Kelley, John-Michael Duby and Sol Escribano also converted.
On Saturday, it finally got a bit tougher, as CBA went to Tully and parlayed a quick start into a 15-10 win over the Black Knights.
By the time Tully got on the board, the Brothers already had a big lead, gained by a 5-0 romp through the first quarter. That margin did shrink, to 8-5 by halftime, but CBA regained the cushion in the third quarter and kept it.
Radziewicz picked up three goals and three assists, with Dalfo adding three goals and one assist. Gait and Driscoll each scored twice, with Papayanakos and Alex Brunner each earning one goal and one assist. Murphy, Romagnoli and Max Luthringer earned the other goals.
CBA’s girls lacrosse team resumed action last Tuesday, against the newly-combined Bishop Ludden/Bishop Grimes entry, and steadily worked its way past the Gaelic Knights 18-8.
An active first half saw the Brothers gain a 10-5 edge. Ludden/Grimes never went away, thanks to one of the Grimes players, Erannan Shattuck, who led her side with five goals.
Still, CBA had too much production. Caroline Webster got six goals and one assist, while Taylor Poplawski scored four times. Marisa Romeo and Sophie Racciatti each scored three times, gaining three assists between them. Rachel Perla added a goal and two assists and Meg Hannan chimed in with one goal and one assist.
When the Brothers met 5-2 Tully on Saturday afternoon, it used timely scoring spurts to take control on the way to beating the Black Knights 19-9.
CBA got the game’s first three goals before the game was five minutes old. Tully played on even terms from there, but with the score 7-4 the Brothers lit it up as Romeo, Webster and Michelle Wiese all scored in the last two minutes of the half, doubling the margin to 10-4.
From there, CBA breezed home as Romeo piled up five goals and four assists, with Wiese enjoying her best output of the season as she earned four goals and two assists. Poplawski got three goals, while Racciatti and Emily Ehle each had two goals and one assist. Webster gained three assists to go with her lone tally as Dell’uomo and Rachel Vercillo scored, too.
Each of the CBA sides would play Onondaga Tuesday before key tests on Friday against Marcellus.
