The weekend in high school track and field included Marcellus serving as the venue for a girls invitational co-hosted by the Mustangs and Skaneateles.
For the host Mustangs, Mary Morocco finished fourth in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 5:15.52, while Maggie Dunn was seventh (11:22.61) in the 3,000-meter run.
Westhill/Ludden’s boys tied for fourth in a 21-team field at the Chittenango Invitational, earning 33 points as Marcellus got 30 points for sixth place and J-E added 18 points.
For the Mustangs, Rob Coon was victorious in the pole vault, clearing 11 feet 6 inches with fewer misses than Jamesville-DeWitt’s Zach Liebemann.
Ryan Manahan got a time of 4:21.47, second to Fayetteville-Manlius star Nick Ryan, who won in 4:14.46. Brian O’Connnell nearly won the high jump, clearing 5’8”, one inch less than Camden’s Robert DeWolfe.
Westhill/Ludden throwing star Corey Wilkinson had a top discus heave of 139’1, second to CBA’s Dan Predmore (139’11”) by less than a foot. In the shot put, Wilkinson again was second, going 47 6 ¾ to finish behind Beaver River’s Daven Brigham (49’ 9 ¼”)
Jack Honis challenged in the 110 hurdles final, but settled for second in 15.49 seconds as Oswego star Cory Keefe won in a blazing 14.75 seconds. Honis added a fourth in the 200-meter dash in 24.17 seconds as Christian St. Amour was sixth (53.27 seconds) in the 400 sprint. Mike Herholtz was sixth in the pole vault.
J-E’s Jake Pritchard earned 2,692 points in the pentathlon, second to Indian River’s Will Moran, who won with 2,857 points.
Steve Slonosky got third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:32.87, with the Mustangs’ John Bell fourth and Westhill/Ludden’s Peter Lynch in sixth place. Also for J-E, Bill DiRenzo took fifth (2:12.75) in the 800 and helped Slonosky, Robert Patterson and Anthony Faiola go to fifth place (9:07.64) in the 4×800 relay.
Meanwhile, in the girls Chittenango Invitational, Westhill/Ludden’s Betsy Black was second in the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 7:34.61, with Wild second in the discus as she flung it 91’1”. Washburn got third in the 3,000 in 11:03.88. Mary Kate Washburn took fifth in the pole vault.
J-E saw Scott gain second place in the 400 hurdles in 1:12.10. Abby Gugel finish fifth, ahead of Westhill/Ludden’s Annibel Coolican (sixth), in the mile run. Byrnes took sixth in the 800.
