For the second time in five days, the Cicero-North Syracuse boys track and field team found itself at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium.
This one, though, was a head-to-head meet between the Northstars and Baldwinsville. As in the April 21 Arcaro Relays, though, C-NS finished on top, 81-60, mostly by showing its versatility and depth.
Frank Volino was the lone two-time winner. Volino ran the 110 high hurdles in 15 seconds flat and went on to claim the 400-meter hurdles in a swift 57.8 seconds.
Mark Broughton gave C-NS a sprint title when he edged B’ville’s Shay Sargeant in the 100-meter dash, though both finished in 11.2 seconds. He also teamed with Cameron Shaughnessy, Shawn Webb and Avery Yarn to take the 4×100 relay in 44.3 seconds.
Then, in the longest race, Neil Gill prevailed for the Northstars in the 3,200-meter run in 9:57.4, though C-NS saved its most success for field events.
Cameron Labarge took the pole vault, clearing 11 feet 6 inches, while Joel Brousseau topped exactly 6 feet in the high jump. Bryson Mayes unleashed a top triple jump of 40’ 2 ½” as Austin George, winning the shot put, threw it 42’4”.
Back home at Bragman Stadium, the C-NS girls roared past Baldwinsville 96-45, getting two wins from both Katie Osborne and Mariah Thomson during a sweep of the field events.
Osborne cleared 5’4” in the high jump and went 16’11” in the long jump. Thomson, meanwhile, had a top discus throw of 89’6” before she went 34’3” in the shot put. Jessica Wheeler won the pole vault, clearing 9 feet, as Javielle Fanizzi had a top triple jump of 33’7”.
On the track, Wheeler won again, claiming the 100 hurdles in 16.5 seconds. C-NS swept the distance events, too, as Maria LaMontagne took the 800 (2:30.20), Nicole Watterud breezed to a 1,500-meter win (5:06.6) and Jacqlynn Halstead ran 3,000 meters in 11:03.2. Halstead, LaMontagne, Marissa Colburn and Taylor Parry took the 4×800 relay in 10:29.9.
