The investigation continues into how Tracy Kulas died and how she ended up in a wooded area behind Shoppingtown Mall.
DeWitt Police say the forensic process at the scene is now complete, and the lab is analyzing all evidence gathered at the scene in the week after Kulas’s remains were found. A 13-year-old boy found the skeletal remains while playing. Police later identified the remains as those of Kulas, who had been missing for seven years and a day. Originally from Kirkville, she was reported missing from an assisted living facility in Syracuse in 2005. Witnesses who saw her last say she got into a black pickup truck, but was not seen since.
The Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet been able to determine her cause of death.
DeWitt Police Sgt. Scott Kapral says the investigation into her death, and what happened in the days before she went missing in 2005, could take months.
