More than a week removed from its overtime scare at Marcellus, the Cazenovia boys lacrosse team did not want the same thing occurring again, especially since key showdowns with Skaneateles and LaFayette loomed.
So the Lakers, hosting Onondaga Thursday at the Sean Googin Sports Complex, jumped all over the Tigers and cruised to a 12-3 decision, extending the state’s longest win streak to 22.
Cazenovia dominated on face-offs in the early going, which led to a consistent attack and to lots of production. When the first quarter was done, the Lakers already owned a 6-0 lead.
That margin swelled to 9-0 by halftime, and it wasn’t until the third period that the Lakers finally allowed a goal. Clay Goris, Mike Nourse, Doyle Judge, Barclay Talbot and the rest of Cazenovia’s back line proved quite effective, and goalie Jay Hahn only had to make six saves.
Connor Cannizzaro again led the offense, scoring three times and adding three assists, while Connor Race notched his own three-goal hat trick. Ryan Cook, Matt Donovan and Henry Mann each had one goal and one assist, while Brad Nardella, Alan Baldwin and Kyle Brown also converted. Alex Sullivan and Jake Falge each had two assists.
Aside from the encounter with Skaneateles (a rematch of last year’s Section III Class C final) and LaFayette on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively, the Lakers also play Jordan-Elbridge on Saturday.
