James Street has reopened between Grant Boulevard and Mildred Avenue after a serious one-car crash early Sunday morning.
Police say Noble Smith Jr., 27, of Syracuse was driving east on James Street when his car went across both west-bound lanes and hit a utility pole near Mildred Avenue. James Street was closed in that area from the time of the accident, around 4:45 a.m. to about 1:30 p.m. as police investigated and crews replaced the pole.
Both people in the car were taken to the hospital with internal injuries. Smith is in fair condition at Upstate University Hospital. His passenger, Shanequa Fair, 19, also of Syracuse, is listed in critical condition. Police say she is stable, though.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
