Camillus Police recognized three individuals at the last regular meeting of the Camillus Town Board.
The police department and town board recognized Officer Jay Pollard as the 2011 Police Officer of the Year. Pollard was bestowed the honor for his “impressive ability” to apprehend impaired drivers, Capt. Steve Rotunno said.
Pollard was recognized by the Onondaga County Traffic Safety Advisory Board for identifying and arresting the highest number of drivers under the influence in a year. He placed 50 drivers under arrest from September 2010 to September 2011, which is 49 percent of the department’s entire DWI arrests. Camillus officers charged 103 drivers with DWI in that time.
Rotunno says Pollard, a three-year veteran of the force, was also recognized because of his work with community children during Child ID events and because of work as a volunteer teaching Police Cadets in the Explorer program.
Police gave Mark Kolinski and David Philippone the Special Recognition Award, recognized for their support and dedication to the police department in the past two years as they served on the town board. Both are former town board members.
